Rishikesh,
Yoga Capital of the World
The name Rishikesh means "Abode of the Gods" among other things. The common name Rishikesh, however, comes from "Hrishikesh," a manifestation of the Hindu god Lord Vishnu. This city is also mentioned as a fortunate place for many Hindu saints to meditate in the Skanda Purana, one of the numerous holy texts of Hinduism. Moreover, Rishikesh is home to a large number of Hindu temples and ashrams. What sets Rishikesh apart from most other Indian tourist sites is the fact that the famous English rock group "The Beatles" recorded most of their songs from "The White Album" there in 1963.
